DIY Trunk Show and Thirty Times a Minute

We at Edgewater Workbench had quite the eventful day on Saturday! It started off with an Intro to 3D Printing for Kids class, then all day at the DIY Trunk Show, and we ended with a great party celebrating local artist Colleen Plumb's public art project Thirty Times a Minute!

We partnered with George B. Swift Elementary School to 3D print designs middle school students created to display at our joint table at the DIY Trunk Show.

After the show, we welcomed a group of over 50 supporters of local artist Colleen Plumb for a talk and reception for her current project Thirty Times a Minute. Colleen has been projecting her video about elephants in captivity on the exteriors of buildings around the city. Last night she projected the video on the side of the Broadway Armory, and hosted a talk about her process with creating the project. Find out where she's projecting next on her website,

The DIY Trunk Show, Chicago’s largest one-day indie craft fair now in its 11th year, kicks off holiday shopping with more than 130 local vendors selling handmade, one-of-a-kind items. Unique jewelry, ceramics, paper goods, bags and purses and even pet accessories are among the many items that will be available for sale in addition to free hands-on workshops and “make and take” jewelry projects.

Two of our retail artists, Hobo Thoreau Greetings and The Impossible Winterbourne, will have booths there, as well as other artists we have worked with in the past.

To showcase and support young artists, the DIY Trunk Show has also partnered this year with local George B. We are 3D printing winning entries and which will be sold alongside other student artwork at the Friends of Swift booth, located upstairs near the food.

Good Times at Olive in Motion Pop-Up Park and Market

We had a great time last Friday at eco-Andersonville's Olive in Motion Pop-Up Park and Market! Despite a brief bout of rain, it was a beautiful night. There were bocce, bags, live gypsy jazz, and tamales!

We brought one of our Makerbots with us and did some 3D printing demonstrations.

It was great to meet Andersonville residents, hang out in the street, and enjoy an evening al fresco!
